Early Intensive Behavioral Treatment Program
Central Valley Autism Project (CVAP), Inc. has been offering  young children
diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder Early Intensive Behavioral Treatment
(EIBT) Program 35 hours per week, in the home or center, for eighteen years in
the Central Valley.  Our EIBT Program is a replication of the clinical treatment
program developed by Dr. Ivar Lovaas (1987, 1993), and uses the principles of
Applied Behavior Analysis.  CVAP, Inc. is one of very few sites in the world
sanctioned by Dr. Ivar Lovaas.  Treatment is individualized via continuous
assessment, data collection, and goals and objectives.  The children are exposed
to all areas of development and are encouraged to maximize their potential to the
best of their ability.  This comprehensive program includes parent and school staff
behavioral training.

Infant-Toddler Program
(under age 3 CENTER-BASED)
The Infant-Toddler (IT) Program is a center-based developmental program  for
children under the age of three who have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum
Disorder or may be “at risk” of such diagnosis. The fundamental differences
between the IT Program and the EIBT Program are the IT Program focuses more
on developmental norms and offers a reduced number of intervention hours.
Children in the IT Program receive a maximum of 18 hours per week and are
presented with curriculum that is based on developmental norms.

Early Start Autism Intervention Program
(under age 3 HOME-BASED)
The Early Start Autism Intervention Program (ESAIP)is a home-based
developmental program for children under the age of three who have a diagnosis
of Autism Spectrum Disorder or may be “at risk” of such diagnosis.  The difference
between the IT Program and ESAIP are that the “at risk” children receive 10 hours
per week of intervention and the children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum
Disorder receive 15 hours per week.

Theory of Mind (TOM) Assessment and Intervention
The Theory of Mind Assessment is designed to identify the deficit social behaviors
associated with Theory of Mind that are common for individuals with Autism
Spectrum Disorder. Our curriculum for Theory of Mind Intervention is designed to
address such social deficits as perspective taking, understanding basic emotions
and expression of needs, identifying and interpreting their own and other’s
nonverbal behavior and emotions, with respect to their desires and knowledge,
and to respond accordingly. Other curriculum includes teaching the individual to
recognize subtleties in posture/tone of voice, understanding cause and effect
relationships, identifying sources of knowledge, etc.  These skills are taught in
many modalities and across a variety of settings in order to promote
generalization and maintenance of these skills to the natural environment.

Adolescent Behavioral and Social Skills Program (all ages)
Our Adolescent Behavioral and Social Skills Program is one which aims to improve
the behavioral and social functioning of older individuals affected with Autism
Spectrum Disorder.  We provide consultation and social skills training to junior
high and high school students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder or
Pervasive Developmental Disorder.  This entails teaching them advanced social
skills involving understanding others’ perspectives, interpreting nonverbal
language, and altering their behavior according to others’ behaviors or common
social rules.  It also involves implementing behavior management strategies to
alter inappropriate behavior or to increase desirable social behavior.
The consultation occurs primarily in the school setting, with the intent to assist
with optimizing their educational placement.

Social Skills Training (all ages)
Our Social Skills Training Program is designed to teach and address deficit highly
advanced and basic social skills and behaviors associated with Autism Spectrum
Disorders and other developmental disorders.  Such areas include advanced skills
such as relationship and friendship development, and basic social skills including
basic toy and leisure play, pretend play, and the skills and behaviors
associated with parallel play, cooperative play, and interactive play. Social skills
are taught in a small, structured setting and then systematically generalized into
the natural environment (i.e. peer play, community settings, extracurricular
activities, school, and other social opportunities). Consultation and tutoring occurs
across multiple settings and environments.

Behavioral Assessments, Consultation, and Intervention (all ages)
Central Valley Autism Program, Inc. has Board Certified Behavior Analysts and
